Our annual Thanksgiving Dinner was very well received together with our CG and his family supporting it. * Over 300 people attended our Consulate's DeepaRaya celebration at Arcadia Community Center. MASC collected quite many memberships that day plus some very generous donations to the Pakistan Earthquake. * More than 25 kids, each with a precious lantern parading infront of their proud parents and judges, eyeing to win a prize on our mooncake lantern contest. Some lanterns were quite impressive, especially the home-made ones.* Merdeka Day picnic was well celebrated by more than 75 people showed up and had a good time enjoying the good food and warm summer day at the park by the lake. * The above news articles and snap-shots at our Photo Gallery speak for us on the success of our Welcome Dinner to the Malaysian badminton national players. Over 120 people attended, more will come if not for the limitation of the restaurant capacity. * A lot of happy faces as they enjoyed so much on the weekend getaway at Tehachapi camping trip. We had about 35 more rejunevated people after the get-away. * We did well on our Dragon Boat Race at the Lotus Festival, wiping off more than 2 minutes from last year's time and we all had great fun. * More than 50 kids and adults came and had a great time for our Easter Egg Hunt picnic. Egg painting, ballon/egg tossing and tug-of-war were some of the great fun we all enjoyed. * More than 160 people fought through hectic traffic on a Friday rainy evening to attend our annual Chinese New Year Dinner & Dance. The effort was well worth it as we all had a very good time celebrating the festival. * The Thanksgiving Dinner and New Year's Eve Party were both wonderful and well attended. Lots of fun and good company to help end the year with a very memorable get-together. * Couldn't agreed better we all had a wonderful time exchanging jokes and "pontian-anak" stories around the campfire under a brightly lit starry night. Encore anyone over the Labor Day weekend? * It was Fantastic! Our Malaysian Night Dinner & Dance with Khatijah Ibrahim and the KL City Hall Dance Troupe was one of the most entertaining and successful event ever. Only Britain (22.7 million) and Canada (17.5 million) received more tourists than Malaysia (10.5 million). Ranking 4th, 5th and 6th are South Africa, Singapore and Australia respectively. * Malaysia's economy is expected to grow at an average rate of 5% per year for the next 15 years, according to Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). * Malaysia has a population of 26.1 million with life expectancy of 71 years for males and 76 years for females, according to the Department of Statistics. It said 16.06 million were bumiputras, 6.1 million Chinese, 1.8 million Indians and 312,000 others plus 1.8 million of non-citizens. * Malaysians found holding dual citizenship or two passports would have their Malaysian citizenship revoked automatically and there is no room to negotiate or choose, said Home Affairs Ministry. * Five Malaysians in Forbes 587 worldwide billionaires ranking this year are: Rank at 111th - Robert Kuok with US$4.2b, at 147th - Ananda Krishnan with US$3.2b, at 262nd - Lim Goh Tong and Quek Leng Chan each with US$2.1b and at 552nd - Tiong Hiew King with US$1.0b. * Malaysia's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 5.2% in 2003, beating most analysts' expectations, on the back of higher consumer spending, soaring exports and stronger growth in investments. * In recognition of outstanding service to the country, Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir and Datin Seri Dr Siti Hasmah were bestowed the title "Tun" by the Pertuan Yang Agung. * Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad unveiled a RM7.3 billion economic package aimed at helping Malaysians mitigate the impact of the SARS outbreak, the Iraqi War and lethargic world Economic conditions. * Malaysia ranked 4th in most competitiveness global ranking after United States, Australia and Canada. Rounding out the top 10 were Germany, Taiwan, Britain, France, Spain and Thailand. |
