Text Box: Text Box: History of Dragon Boat Race During the period of the Warring States in 400 BC China, Chu Yuan, (343-290 B.C.) a renowned poet was a minister for the Chu state under the rule of King Huai and later his son. Both Kings had been corrupt and had respectively exiled the patriotic Chu Yuan for advising them to right their ways for the interest of the state’s welfare. In his last exile to the Meilo Island, the despondent Chu Yuan, having failed in his attempts to protect and unite the country, committed suicide by drowning in the hope that his death will call attention to the people’s sad plight. The people in the community searched in their boats in an effort to save him but however was unsuccessful. In their grief, they decided to commemorate his death on the 5th day of the 5th Lunar month, the anniversary of his death, by burning incense and throwing sacrificial foods into the river. This commemoration eventually evolved into a festival with colorful dragon boats racing to the sound of loud drums and the eating of delicious rice dumplings. This regatta is enjoyed and celebrated by Chinese throughout the world. Text Box: SELAMAT KAWAN-KAWAN. LET’S PRACTISE POSITIVE THINKING/LIVING (PTL) What is PTL? It is thinking and activities that doesn't create any stress in our life and on those around us. I consider PTL as a way of creating positive energy (PE) to be deposited into our PE bank. Negative thinking/living (NTL) creates stress and withdraws from our PE bank. Like your financial bank account, if you withdraw without deposit, soon you will go bankrupt and life can be mighty sad. Stress is not the devil but how we handle stress is. If we handle stress with PTL we will create PE for our bank account. NTL handling of stress depletes our PE account and causes more stress. This is a vicious circle but we have a choice to be PTL or NTL We can handle any negative situation with PTL. First use our heads and understand the negative situation. Understand the 6 'W's; how, what, where, why, when and who, than workout a PTL solution. Possible solution - vent, vent and vent (in a positive way) to get the pressure off our chest; can we do anything positive and if the answer is yes go do it. If the answer is no, than it is out of our control, acknowledge this, forgive/let go, trust in the Lord/pray and continue with our PTA life. This is not easy and we often need help. Reach out for help when we need it. The slogan for life is “SHIT THE DAMNED THING DIED ---- AND THEN?????” From now to the next newsletter try and work out the meaning of the slogan, that will be my next topic. When our PE bank account is low that is when we need a loan from another bank account. My PE account is very high and I am ready to extend a loan to anyone - interest free and no payback. When we need help we need help, so we need to call immediately. Reading PTL books give us PE. Read them. Hanging with positive people also give us PE. Let's continue to deposit into our PE bank account and have a positive influence on all the negative people.
